The West Lynn Public School Music Program received an $18,800 donation from 100 Women Who Care Norfolk to support students with new equipment, choir apparel, and transportation to community performances.
Catherine Wiebe, a 100 Women member and West Lynn music teacher, choir and ensemble director, presented at the August meeting and explained that the funds would purchase an electronic keyboard for piano accompaniment at outdoor venues, choir uniform t-shirts, hand chimes, and kalimbas.
The donation will also help fund bus transportation so these up-and-coming musicians can perform at more venues, allowing more people in the community to enjoy their talent. The program benefits students across ages and grades while also serving audiences at music festivals, public concerts, and local nursing homes.
When West Lynn School moves over to West Elgin, all of the funded items will move with the students to the new location.
Two other charities also presented at the meeting: HN Senior Support Services, presented by Sherri Young and sponsored by member Beth Redden, and Norfolk Community Foundation’s Splash Pad project, presented by member Natalie McConnell.
Since 2014, 100 Women Who Care Norfolk had raised just under $800,000 for 49 charities, supporting thousands of people in Norfolk County.
